Kittens abandoned in empty flat left to fend for themselves
A new mother and her litter of tiny kittens have been found abandoned in a poor condition at an empty flat in Leicester.
Five kittens, thought to be five weeks old, their mother and another young cat, were discovered by the landlord of the property who called Cats Protection's Nottingham Adoption Centre to help out.
Since being in the care of Cats Protection, some of the members of the feline family have been diagnosed with conjunctivitis, which is a highly contagious eye infection.
A vet check also revealed that all of the kittens had ear mites and one had cat flu.
Cats Protection says that Abandoned kittens is a situation that will be more prevalent this year because of the lack of neutering that has been available during lockdown.

The feline welfare charity is urging people to keep their unneutered cats indoors, and also unneutered males, females and siblings apart, until vet practices are fully operational again.
Staff at the adoption centre in Nuthall will be spending their time nursing the feline family back to health.
