Former Kasabian frontman Tom Meighan pleads guilty to assaulting ex fiancee
Tom Meighan, the former frontman of Kasabian, has pleaded guilty at LeicesterMagistrates' Court to assaulting his former fiancee.
The alleged assault on Vikki Ager is said to have taken place on the 9th of April this year.
Meighan, from Narborough, originally denied that an assault had taken place but after watching video footage he told officers he could not watch it any longer because it was "horrible".
Meighan, 39, had been with Kasabian since 1997 but he left the indie rock band on Monday (July 6) with "mutual consent" from his band mates Serge Pizzorno, Chris Edwards and Ian Matthews.
Kasabian released a statement saying their former frontman was dealing with "personal issues" and that he wanted to concentrate on "getting his life back on track".
Following the announcement of his departure from Kasabian, Meighan later tweeted thanks to his fans for their love and support, saying he was in a "good place now" and that he was "doing well".
Leicester Magistrates' Court heard how Vikki Ager suffered bruising to her knees, left elbow, outer ankle and big toe as well as a reddening around the neck, which she confirmed to police was as a result of the assault.
Prosecutor Naeem Valli told the court the offence “could be argued to be relatively serious” – describing it as a “sustained assault”.
Kasabian issued a follow-up statement on Twitter after Tom Meighan’s assault charge, saying they were "heartbroken".
