Leicester fashion wear manufacturers address safety measures amid claims of staff exploitation

Textile manufacturers in Leicester say reports that garment factories have contributed to the recent Coronavirus surge are hugely misleading and bad for the industry.

A campaign group says some firms are exploiting staff by forcing them to work even though they've tested positive for COVID-19.

One manufacturer in the city says they are ensuring their 50 staff members are kept safe by changing shift patterns and testing workers for COVID-19 weekly.

However, a report by a campaign group 'Labour Behind the Label' has highlighted bad practices in the industry- and says textiles factories are potentially responsible for the recent coronavirus outbreak.

Businessman Aniz Dassu said: “I think it is unfounded and unfair. There are many factories like ourselves who do really good work."
