Hairdressers and barbers in the Midlands prepare to reopen

From Saturday, hairdressers and barbers in the Midlands will be allowed to reopen, excluding in Leicester, after months of being closed.

New measures are being put in place to keep customers safe, including the deep cleaning of stations and at the Hazel and Haydn salon in Birmingham, that includes the removal of ipads, magazines, books, tea or coffee and more.

Dale Hollingshead, Director, Hazel and Haydn said: “It's been quite difficult, I'll be honest and part of that is coming down to knowing what to do. We only had guidelines recently. Some of the elements like the Perspex screens, it's been quite hard to get hold of the plastic for those.”

Elsewhere, Barrie Stephen owns five salons. Two of them in Leicester can't reopen because of the local lockdown there but the other three, will – much to his customers delight.

Client, Daniella Rushton said: "I've been going au naturel. My hair's been up in a bun since February. I'm just really excited and really keen to be back in the salon. It'll be nice to see all the guys again, and I know it's super safe to be in there. I think it's leaping into the new normal."
