Police shut down party of 200 people in Birmingham

Police have shut down a party of 200 people at a park in Birmingham and arrested five others in connection with organising illegal raves in Staffordshire.

It comes despite warnings from police in the West Midlands against illegal raves and mass gatherings.

The party in Sorrel Park in Erdington attracted crowds revellers despite being banned under lockdown rules.

Bottles of alcohol and gas canisters were left strewn across the recreation area in Egerton Road.

Police said they did not believe the gathering was an unlicensed rave but they moved party-goers on last night after they were called at around 9.45pm.

Five men have been arrested in connection with the organisation of illegal raves in Staffordshire.

It comes as police issued a dispersal order following reports anillegal gathering was set to take place in the Chasewater area.

The order started at 9pm last night and will last until 9am on SundayJune 21.
