Man jailed for killing pregnant girlfriend, her partially disabled sister and their mother in house fire denied release

A taxi driver who murdered his pregnant girlfriend, her partially disabled sister and their mother in a house fire in Shropshire, won’t be released from prison.

Azhar Ali Mehmood had his parole review rejected and will carry on serving four life sentences.

He was jailed after setting fire to a house in Telford in Shropshire in August 2000, killing 16-year-old Lucy Lowe, 17-year-old Sarah Lowe, and 49-year-old Eileen Linda Lowe.

Mehmood was also convicted of the attempted murder of George Lowe, the teenagers' 56-year-old father and Mrs Lowe's husband, who managed to escape the blaze through a bedroom window.

Mehmood had initially claimed he was woken up by a smoke alarm in the house and had to escape through a window.

But, his taxi was spotted at a nearby petrol station moments before the blaze took hold of the property, and traces of petrol were discovered in the living room and kitchen.
