Midlands zoos 'delighted' at the prospect of reopening on 15th June
Zoos in the Midlands, such as Dudley Zoo and Twycross Zoo, have said they are 'delighted' at the prospect of reopening on Monday.
Boris Johnson is set to announce the reopening of zoos and safari parks from June 15 in tonight's daily government briefing (10 June).
Though the easing will be a relief, zoos will be told that they must not reopen indoor exhibitions, such as reptile houses, and must ensure amenities including cafes are takeaway only.
In an official statement Dudley Zoo said: 'Staff at the Castle Hill attraction are delighted... after fearing financial ruin earlier this week.'
Under pressure from zoos warning they face an exponential threat, Mr Johnson is expected to say at the Downing Street press conference they can reopen next week as long as they can uphold social-distancing rules.
He will also announce the easing of restrictions on outdoor attractions where people remain in their cars, such as safari parks, because the risk of spreading the disease is lower outside.
In a post on their website, Twycross Zoo said it's been 'an unusual time' that has led to 'some difficult months'.
They say they are 'planning to reopen soon' and 'have been working hard to make some changes which will help keep staff and visitors safe.'
