Three-year-old boy discovers the ancient remains of what is believed to be a human skull
A three-year-old boy discovered the ancient remains of what is believed to be a human skull in Southwell, Nottinghamshire, on Thursday morning (14 May) .
Police were called to a path off Church Street where Charlie Ryan-Williams was walking with his father, Jack.
Preliminary investigations suggest the skull fragments, found near the site of an ancient Anglo Saxon burial ground and Roman villa, are likely to be human.
The remains may now be sent for more detailed laboratory examination but no further police investigations are deemed necessary.
After all investigations have been completed, the remains will be passed into care of the Nottinghamshire County archaeologist.
