M1 partially closed as ducks wander onto road
Part of the M1 was closed this afternoon because a number of ducks had wandered onto the road.
Highways England explained on Twitter that earlier this afternoon (Tuesday, May 12) traffic had to be stopped between junction 25 for Derby/A52 and junction 26 for Nottingham/A610 because of the birds.
A mother duck and what looked like four of her ducklings were on the road near Derby, and could have been killed if they wandered any further without traffic being stopped.
Highways England also shared an image of the birds, caught on their live traffic cameras.
They also later shared that the ducks had been saved by traffic officers, and the held traffic had been released.
