The veterans marking VE Day from home
A veteran from Brierly Hill says he hopes there will be more traditional celebrations soon for VE Day as lockdown restrictions put a stop to planned parades and events.
96-year-old Albert Evans was in Germany when Victory in Europe was declared, but today he was home with his family.
Recalling his time in the service, Mr Evans said: "One can't forget what happened".
The same goes for 98-year-old veteran Douglas Moore from Wellingborough who this year, has been remembering the fallen indoors.
Mr Moore fought for his country and more recently fought for his life in hospital after getting coronavirus.
He said: "Very sad at the people that we lost. Many of them good friends but there we are. You have to accept it. I have accepted it all these years."
The East Midlands veteran said "this the first year that I haven't attended the actual parade".
