Police surprise young girl who had birthday money stolen
A schoolgirl was left heartbroken after thieves stole her £20birthday money in a Stoke-on-Trent newsagent as she picked sweets.
8-year-old Lacey Tilstone had gone to the shop in Tunstall with her gran, Janet Wright, to buy treats. She selected a magazine before placing it on thecounter with the cash while she browsed the confectionary.
But when her back was turned, the £20 note had disappeared.
Police were called and, after checking CCTV, they made an arrest.
To help cheer up Lacey, the officers also turned up at her home the following day to present her with £115, a cake donated by Asda, balloons and a card.
Lacey's grateful mum Emily Wright says the police have restored her faith in people. She added: "She's just so happy. We can't thank the police enough. They have been wonderful."
Lacey is now planning top spend the money on a trip to the Harry Potter theme park when it opens. She said: "I'm making the police a card to say thank-you."
A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "A man has been arrested onSunday afternoon in connection with the incident."
