Construction on intu Broadmarsh will not resume despite new lockdown advice
Construction on the redevelopment of intu Broadmarsh will not resume this month, despite new lockdown advice.
The shopping centre was around half way through its multi-million-pound redevelopment project before the country went into lockdown on March 23.
It is due to be complete in summer 2021.
Construction on the site had stopped and would only re-start once it was 'safe to do so'.
Bosses at the shopping centre, which also owns Nottingham's intu Victoria Centre, said the site will remain closed as apply social distancing guidelines.
It comes as, Health secretary Matt Hancock said the government was 'comfortable' with construction sites reopening on Friday (April 24).
He added it was because they were never asked to close as part of the lockdown.
Alongside the shopping centre redevelopment is the new Broadmarsh car park, bus station and library, and Nottingham City Council say construction work will continue as planned.
The council added that work is also continuing on the redevelopment of Nottingham Castle, however, it expects there to be some delays.
However, there will 'undoubtedly be changes' to the overall programme with some trades and materials not being available when planned for.
They say it's 'too early' to draw firm conclusions on the overall timetable and they're doing all they can to keep this project on track.
