Derbyshire residents without water after water pipe burst

A large water pipe burst early this morning in Derbyshire.

Severn Trent Water say the burst water pipe affects "a very large area" including Ripley, Belper, Alfreton and Ilkeston.

They then reported that one of their larger pipes burst on Bull Bridge, in Ambergate and that their teams are investigating and attempting to get the water back on as quickly as possible.

They are also working with the police, who have fully closed Bull Bridge Hill "from both sides."

At 10:59 this morning (April 6) Severn Trent Water then published an update to their website, saying that they have located the broken piece of water pipe, and that water will start to reach customers again - but that due to the size of the affected areas, this could take some time.

They also say that when the water does come back on "it may be at a lower pressure than usual." But they say that this is just temporary, and that it will go back to normal once the pipe has been fixed.

Severn Trent Water also thanked their affected customers for their "patience and understanding."
