Godiva Festival in Coventry cancelled due to coronavirus
Coventry City Council has cancelled this year's Godiva Festival due to coronavirus.
The City Council says they have acted because of the latest Government and Public Health advice regarding the virus.
Their decision was made after careful consideration, together with the event's partners.
They say they have done so to protect the public - and the 'thousands of people' that regularly attend the festival - alongside emergency service workers and key workers, so they are able to concentrate on working where they are most needed.
There is uncertainty over staffing levels as many are self-isolating, organisers could not 'be confident of delivering a high-quality event' that had all the necessary content, infrastructure and safety measures in place.
Organisers say they know many will be disappointed with this decision, but it was made by taking into account the latest advice on limiting the spread of coronavirus by social distancing and avoiding mass gatherings.
