All Flybe flights cancelled from Birmingham and East Midlands airports

Europe's largest regional airline Flybe has gone into administration.

The company, which flies out of Birmingham Airport and East Midlands Airport, announced in the early hours of Thursday (March 5th) that it had ceased trading with immediate effect and that administrators had been appointed.

A drop in demand caused by the coronavirus "made a difficult situation worse" for Flybe, an airline source said.

Flybe flights from East Midlands Airport (EMA) have been cancelled with immediate effect.

In a statement EMA are telling people who have booked onto a Flybe flight, and haven't started their journey, to not travel to the airport.

The Jersey/Guernsey service operated by Blue Islands, under a franchise agreement with Flybe, will continue to operate as normal and passengers will be unaffected.

Passengers who were due to travel with Flybe back to EMA should contact their travel insurance company in the first instance.

A spokesperson for EMA have said that no passengers have turned up for Flybe this morning.

Birmingham Airport (BHX) have also told passengers due to travel with Flybe to not come to the airport as there will be no more flights with the airline from the UK.

According to the Anker Report 30.7% of Birmingham Airport's (BHX) flights are from Flybe which could have a big impact on the airport.

BHX have already made arrangements for two airlines to replace five of its routes in the next few weeks and have said that they will continue to replace the remaining capacity for the region and customers.

The UK Civil Aviation Authority is advising customers to make their own alternative travel arrangements.
