Family calls for independent inquiry into passing of man who starved to death

The family of a man who starved to death after his benefits were cut - are calling for an independent inquiry into his death.

Errol Graham, 57, was found inside his flat in Radford in Nottingham in June 2018, when bailiffs arrived to evict him for failing to pay rent.

He weighed just four and a half stone and there was no food in his flat apart from a few out-of-date tins of fish.

Now his family have released a letter which Errol wrote to welfare officers pleading with them to "judge him fairly".

The 57-year-old also wrote that he was afraid to put the heating on.

The Government department responsible for benefits is the Department for Work and Pensions.

In a statement they said: "Our sympathies are with Mr Graham's family. It would be inappropriate to comment further at this time"
