Peter Hobday, former Today presenter dies aged 82
Former Today presenter, Peter Hobday, passes away at the age of 82.
Peter Hobday was a popular personality on BBC Radio 4's Today programme, where he hosted the show for 14 years and helped launch the current affairs programme, Newsnight.
Colleagues and friends remember him for his "warm", "generous" and "funny" demeanour, as well as being "well-read and a man of vast accomplishments".
Hobday was born in 1937 in Wolverhampton and studied modern languages at Leicester University.
He kicked off his career at the Wolverhampton Express and Star, as a show business editor, and then joined the BBC in 1970.
Hobday was known for his relaxed, courteous style and his skilled approach to tricky interviews.
At the age of 60, he was controversially dismissed from the Today programme and continued to present on various other radio programmes.
