Ten-year-old boy stabbed while out with his mother

Police in Leicester are appealing for the public's help in tracing a man who attacked and stabbed a ten-year-old boy this afternoon.

The child was with his mother when he was approached by a man who stabbed him before running off from the scene. It happened at around 5.20pm this afternoon (18th January) on Belper Street in the city.

The boy was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, where his condition is described as non-life-threatening.

Officers say his mother was not injured in the incident.

Police have now cordoned off Belper Street to investigate.
