Man rescued as more than 40 firefighters tackle 'severe' fire at restaurant

A man has been rescued as more than 40 firefighters are tackling a 'severe' fire at a restaurant in Birmingham.

Fire crews were called to the African Village on Birchfield Road in Perry Barr at around 3.58pm on Tuesday (14 January).

A huge fire can been seen breaking through the roof of the restaurant followed by plumes of smoke.

Firefighters used a ladder to rescue one man from a first floor window of the premises, while another person managed to escape unaided.

Two surrounding roads have been closed off while emergency crews deal with the incident.
