Ben Stokes raises over £19k for charity after two friends run 5k in pants and flip-flops

England cricketer Ben Stokes has pledged more than £19,000 to an Alzheimer's charity after inspiring two fans to run 5k in just their pants and flip-flops.

Jonathan Lamley, from Nottingham, and friend Mike Macdonald, from Leicestershire promised to do the run if England won the Ashes.

The pair kept their word and completed the parkrun on December 7, at Rushcliffe Country Park.

They managed to raise almost £2,000 for Alzheimer's Research UK.

England's vice captain heard about the pair's story and thanked them for 'sticking to their word'.

The pair appeared on Good Morning Britain yesterday (December 10) to tell Ben Stokes in person just how much he inspired them.

Following their chat on GMB, the all-rounder took to Twitter and said he would donate £1 for every 'retweet and like I get on to this tweet in the next 30 mins'.

The post ended up raising over £19,000 in the 30 minutes for Alzheimer's Research UK.

The charity thanked Jonathan, Mike and Ben for all their support and said it will help say 'pants to dementia once and for all'.
