Sinkhole closes primary school
A primary school in Matlock has closed today after a sinkhole appeared in the village hall car park next door.
The hole lies above what's thought to be an old limestone mining shaft in Middleton.
The hall is frequently used by the school for lessons. Staff and parents of the school also use the car park.
The sinkhole is said to be around 10ft (3m) deep and 3ft (1m) wide.
Work to repair the damage is underway after an inspection by a structural engineer. It's hoped the school will re-open tomorrow.
