50 years of colour on ITV: remember the Test Card girl?
When ITV began broadcasting in the mid-1950s, it was only in on the afternoons and evenings. The rest of the time viewers were treated to the Test Card - in black and white of course, primarily used by TV engineers to install or repair sets.
But suddenly, if you had access to one of 16,000 or so colour sets in this part of the world, could see the new colour Test Card.
It became an iconic TV image, seen all over the world - but for one eight-year-old schoolgirl, it was life-changing.
So how did Carole end up becoming the Test Card girl ?
