Man killed by falling tree named as Neville Scattergood
A 58-year-old man who died after a freak accident involving a tree has been named.
Neville Scattergood, from Stafford, was on the Isabel Trail off Eccleshall Road, when he was hit by a falling tree on 3 October.
Emergency services including the police, ambulance and fire service descended on the area close to the cemetery at around 6.45am.
The 58-year-old suffered a cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Now South Staffordshire Coroner's Court has been notified of Mr Scattergood's death on 3 October ahead of an inquest being opened.
A full hearing to establish the circumstances around his death will then be held.
However, Staffordshire Police have confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances.
Part of the Isabel Trail between Izaak Walton Close to the section by The Range today (8 October) remains closed to the public.
Health and safety experts have been visiting the site to investigate the circumstances and cause of the tree to fall onto the path.
