Police officer taken to hospital after hit-and-run
A manhunt is underway to find the driver of a car that ran over a police officer before fleeing the scene.
Emergency services were called to Burnaby Road, Coventry, around 2.45pm today (25 September) to reports of a man hit by a vehicle.
The victim was a neighbourhood officer who attempted to stop a car when he was run over.
The driver fled the scene, and the vehicle was recovered a short distanceaway.
The officer was taken to hospital with head and leg injuries.
The incident sparked a large emergency service response with a number of police officers in attendance.
West Midlands Ambulance Service were also called to the incident.
A spokesman said: "One ambulance and one paramedic officer were sent to the scene.
"On arrival they found a road traffic collision between a car and a pedestrian."
They added that a man in his 40s had been taken to hospital after he was “treated on scene by ambulance staff and then taken on blue lights to University Hospital in Coventry for further treatment.”
