Derby County footballers charged with drink-driving after crash

Two Derby County footballers have been charged with drink-driving following a crash late last night.

Tom Lawrence and Mason Bennett were arrested at the scene shortly before midnight last night (September 24) on the A6 near Allesstree, Derby.

The 25-year-old Welsh international and his 23-year-old teammate were charged with drink-driving earlier today.

Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit tweeted out a picture of the incident, which involved a Range Rover Sport and a Mercedes GLC.

In a statement confirming details of the incident, Derbyshire Constabulary said: "Two men have been charged with drink-driving after a collision involving a Range Rover Sport and a Mercedes GLC at the junction of Burley Hill and the A6 at Allestree last night."

The pair are due to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court on October 15.
