Rapist and kidnapper treated to KFC meal by prison guards
An investigation has been launched after a "psychopathic" rapist and kidnapper was treated to a KFC meal by prison staff.
Ashley Wright, from Sutton Coldfield, was bought the fast food during a transfer from HMP Northumberland to a prison in Lincolnshire.
Staff said the 6ft, 20-stone prisoner had to be unexpectedly returned to the North East immediately after his arrival.
When prison staff had a problem getting food for the sex attacker on the way back, a governor at the prison gave the guards permission to take the 60-year-old prisoner to the fast food drive-through.
Wright - who is coming to the end of his sentence - has repeatedly applied to be released early, but has been knocked back three times because he is too dangerous.
In November 2017, Wright took the Parole Board to the High Court over the decision not to release him but was once again told he must remain behind bars.
Psychological assessments of Wright made prior to the hearings found he had psychopathic traits, with one doctor concluding he suffered from a "high level of psychopathy".
A member of staff at HMP Northumberland - who did not want to be named - said inmates were furious over the incident.
A spokesperson for HMP Northumberland - which is run by the private company Sodexo - said the incident was being investigated."
