Warning - distressing images: Nine sheep found mutilated in latest 'horrific' crime
WARNING: Distressing content.
A gang is killing sheep and stripping them of their meat in raids across three counties.
Some of the gang members have butchery skills, and the gang has been targeting livestock across Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Warwickshire since the beginning of the year, the National Farmers' Union (NFU) believes.
The latest incident happened this week on land on the outskirts of Lutterworth.
The owner of the livestock contacted police on Monday morning, July 29 after finding the remains of nine sheep in one of their fields.
James Peck, spokesman for the NFU in the East Midlands, said:
A Warwickshire Police spokesman said that the sheep in the Lutterworth area were killed some time between 4.30pm on Sunday, July 28 and 8.50am on Monday, July 29.
He added that meat had been taken from the sheep, and that there has been no arrests made at the moment.
