Harry Potter book fetches more than £34,000 at auction
A first edition copy of 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone' sold for more than £34,000 at an auction near Cannock Chase.
The 31st of July is also the author J.K. Rowling's, and boy wizard protagonist Harry Potter's, birthday.
The book was originally bought for just £1 as the book's owner wanted something to read on holiday 20 years ago.
It's originally a Staffordshire Libraries copy, and is one of only 500 first edition and first issue copies of the bestselling novel.
The opening price for the copy was £12,000, but it quickly climbed to reach the higher part of the auctioneer's estimate of £20,000 - £30,000, selling for £28,500, but with VAT and buyers' premium, it takes the price up to £34,200.
