Birmingham celebrates three years until start of Commonwealth Games

It's exactly three years today until the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games begin - putting the sporting spotlight on the city from July 27 to 7 August 2022.

Celebrations were held in the Centenary Square with a festival named 'The Commonwealth Social' - showcasing the city's cultural and sporting talent.

The venues for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games include Cannock Chase, Sutton Park, Sandwell Aquatics Centre, Alexander Stadium, Arena Birmingham, University of Birmingham, Birmingham City Centre, National Exhibition Centre and Coventry Indoor Arena.

It will be the biggest sporting and cultural event ever held in the city, featuring thousands of world-class athletes, over a million spectators and an estimated global TV audience of 1.5 billion.

It was confirmed last month that the West Midlands is set to receive a whopping £778 million investment from the Government to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
