Travel chaos hits the region as temperatures soar
Rail passengers in the Midlands are facing severe delays as customers are warned not to travel.
Speed restrictions and cancellations are in place because of hot temperatures, to prevent tracks from buckling.
There are no services running between the East Midlands and London St Pancras due to overhead power line damage.
East Midlands Trains say they don't expect the line to be reopened today.
Hundreds of passengers are being prevented from entering London's Euston station, which serves the West Midlands, because of what's being described as "over heating problems."
Trains are being cancelled or delayed and bus replacement services being laid on
West Midlands Railway and East Midlands Trains are therefore advising passengers not to start any new journeys today. West Midlands Railway tickets dated today will be accepted for travel on Friday.
A spokesman for the West Midlands Railway said “We are sorry to have to issue this advice. We don’t make these decisions very often nor do we take them lightly. Faced with multiple heat related incidents across our network the responsible thing is to focus on people already travelling. We will be doing all we can to get people home this evening.”
Broxtowe MP Anna Soubry expressed her frustration at the delays in a tweet to East Midlands Trains.
