Driver of stolen BMW who led police on 130mph chase is jailed

A man who stole a BMW and led police on a chase reaching 130mph on the M6, has been jailed for three years.

46-year-old Ezra Jones from Birmingham, demanded a woman get out of her car at Dudley Port railway station in March.

CCTV showed him pulling open the driver-side door of the BMW 2 Series and saying “I don’t want to hurt you” while threatening the victim with a clenched fist.

The victim, a woman in her 40s, got out the vehicle without injury.

When Jones did not immediately drive off she pulled open the car door and asked for her house keys; he responded with a clenched fist.

He then sped towards the M6 where he raced down the hard shoulder, weaved between traffic and reached speeds of up to 130mph.

Specialist traffic officers from West Midlands Police and Warwickshire Police were involved in the pursuit.

It came to an end when Jones crashed the BMW; he pulled it onto the hard shoulder and behind a waiting police vehicle.

He then jumped out of the car and demanded “arrest me, arrest me” but continued to act violently, even trying to head-butt an officer.

Jones was sentenced for robbery and dangerous driving on Wednesday 26 June at Birmingham Crown Court.

He has also been disqualified from driving for four years and three months.
