Police dog stabbed in the head as officers try to detain man

A police dog is being treated for a stab wound after being attacked in Staffordshire this morning (1 July).

Officers were called to a report of a man armed with a knife on Town Road in Hanley at around 2.15pm.

The dog received a stab wound to the head as officers tried to detain the suspect.

A police officer was also injured during the incident.

The detained man is believed to have suffered a medical emergency and has been taken to hospital for treatment.
