Fire crews attempt to rescue 'daring' rabbit from building ledge
Fire crews and RSPCA teams have been trying to rescue a rabbit that's been sitting on the ledge of a tall building in Nottingham.
The fluffy animal, which typically lives in open fields, was spotted in a drain pipe on the side of Trinity Square car park by workers in the E.ON building opposite.
A Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue crew attended the scene in Burton Street alongside the RSPCA at around 1pm yesterday (May 10) but have been unable to reach it so far.
Martin Aldred, watch manager at London Road, who was at the scene, said the rabbit had backed off into a "void" area which was inaccessible to its would-be rescuers, but that it looked as though it was happy and healthy and had been living there a while.
The RSPCA officer at the scene, Hayley Day, said it would have to be left there until it resurfaces again - but that it will be monitored.
She said: "At the minute there is nothing we can do but it seems happy and alert.
"The fire service cannot get to it and my equipment will not reach. We have told the caller who reported it to call again if they see it.
"It's not ideal but we have to wait until we can get to it, but it does seem healthy."
A Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman added: "The rabbit is on a ledge five metres above the ground.
"It is not yet known how the small mammal reached such a height at this stage as they are not known to be able to fly."
