The final weekend of the 2018/19 season in the Football League is upon us. There are still teams in the Midlands eyeing for promotion, looking to cement their play-off places and hoping to avoid the dreaded drop.

The Championship season ends on Sunday with all of the games kicking off at 12:30.

Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion have already secured their place in the play-offs. We know that Villa will definitely finish in fifth place and it is likely they will play their local rivals in the semi-finals unless West Brom beat Derby County and Leeds United lose to already relegated Ipswich Town.

Derby’s play-off fate is in their own hands. If they beat West Brom they will be the third Midlands club in the play-offs. If they fail to win, it will leave the door open for Middlesbrough and Bristol City to claim that final place.

The League One season ends on Saturday with all of the games kicking off at 17:30.

It’s a big day for Walsall who will be aiming to avoid dropping into League Two for the first time in 12 years. To survive relegation they will have to beat local neighbours Shrewsbury Town and will need two teams from Plymouth, Southend and Wimbledon not to win.

Peterborough still have a chance of getting the last play-off place. To achieve this they will have to beat Burton and hope Doncaster don’t beat Coventry.

League Two

The League Two season ends on Saturday with all of the games kicking off at 15:00.

Lincoln City are already crowned champions of League Two and will play in the third tier of English for the first time in 20 years.

They will be joined by Mansfield Town if they don’t get beaten by fellow promotion rivals MK Dons.

All eyes will be on Notts County as they aim to complete the great escape by avoiding relegation out of the football league for the first time in the club’s 150+ year history.

The world’s oldest professional football club will have to beat Swindon Town and need Macclesfield lose to Cambridge to remain in England’s top four divisions.
