Nottinghamshire climber in 'life threatening' condition after being stranded on Scottish mountain

A Nottinghamshire climber is seriously ill in hospital after becoming stranded overnight on a mountain in Scotland.

The 57-year-old was airlifted from a peak in the Glencoe area yesterday (9th March) after a major search and rescue operation. Another 49-year-old man, also from Nottinghamshire, was rescued alongside him.

Police say the 57-year-old is in a life-threatening condition at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, while the other climber is stable at Belford Hospital in Fort William.

It is understood they were suffering from the effects of hypothermia.

The search began on Friday evening and resumed at 8am on Saturday (9th March), involving Glencoe, Lochaber and Oban Mountain Rescue Teams and a Coastguard helicopter.

HM Coastguard said one climber was found at midday and the second was located around 30 minutes later.

Oban Mountain Rescue Team assisted in the search for the men.

The Scottish Avalanche Information Service warned of a "considerable" avalanche hazard on Friday and Saturday.
