Mum of teens mugged at knifepoint confronts Home Secretary Sajid Javid over knife crime crisis
A furious mother whose children were mugged at knifepoint challenged the Home Secretary during his visit to Birmingham.
50-year-old Fiona Raychell who was just passing by, spotted the Home Secretary in Northfield High Street before asking him ''What are you doing about knife crime?"
She told him that her two sons had been victims of a crimes involving knives.
Her 15-year-old son was mugged at knifepoint inside Highbury Park, Kings Heath, a fortnight ago when confronted by a gang of 10. Her 17-year old son also experienced something similar she says.
Fiona continued to question the Home Secretary and said: "What are you doing about it, though?"
Reacting to the mother-of-two's question, Mr Javid said mum Fiona Raychell represented the general feeling amongst people across the city.
The Home Secretary and Bromsgove MP Sajid Javid met with West Midlands Police today (Friday 8 March) to discuss the city's knife crime crisis.
He says is "deeply concerned" by spiralling levels of violent crime and warned that it will take action on "many fronts" to tackle the problem.
