How to make the perfect pancakes on Pancake Day

Do you want to celebrate Pancake Day but don't know how to make them? Well look no further, we've got you covered!

Classic pancakes

To make approximately 12 traditional pancakes, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 100g plain flour

  • 2 large eggs

  • 300ml milk

  • Butter or oil for frying

  • Lemon and sugar to serve

Method:

  • Sieve the flour and add the eggs and milk into a large bowl

  • Whisk into a smooth batter

  • Heat a frying pan and add a small amount of butter or oil

  • Add a spoonful of batter into the pan and cook for approximately one minute before turning over, cooking for a further minute or until golden brown

  • Serve with a lemon wedge and sugar or an alternative topping of your choice

Savoury pancakes

Do you want something a little less sweet this Shrove Tuesday? Simply follow the classic recipe above, adding a pinch of salt and pepper into the batter mix.

Then swap sugar and lemon for grated cheese and ham.

Vegan pancakes

To make approximately 10 vegan pancakes, you will need the following ingredients (as recommended by The Buddhist Chef):

  • 450g all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 2 tbsp sugar

  • 60ml vegetable oil

  • 750ml soya milk or a non-dairy alternative

  • 0.5 tsp vanilla extract

Method:

  • Combine the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a bowl

  • Add the milk, vanilla extract and oil and whisk until smooth

  • Heat a frying pan and add a tbsp of oil

  • Add a spoonful of batter into the pan and cook for approximately two minutes on either side

  • Serve warm with your favourite ingredients, such as soft fruits and maple syrup
