A bag containing £20,000 in cash has yet to be claimed – four months after an online appeal went viral.Police officers in Telford stumbled across the cash while on a routine patrol in the town of Wellington on Tuesday, October 16.

Wellington’s Local Policing Priority Team – who stumbled across the money – launched an online appeal to find its owner.

Four months on, though, West Mercia Police confirmed that not a single person had come forward to claim the cash.

According to common law, a person who finds lost personal property could keep it until - and unless - the original owner comes forward.

This rule applies to people who discover lost property in public areas.

Mislaid property, meanwhile, generally goes to the owner of the property where it was found.

The West Mercia Police force were unable to provide a further update as to where the cash would go if it remains unclaimed.
