A cyclist in his 70s suffers injuries after riding over pothole
A man from Shropshire who has cycled for more than 60 years was left injured after his bicycle hit a pothole in the road.
78-year-old Reg Dixon suffered bad grazes to his face, arms and legs after hitting a series of three potholes when he was out cycling in May 2018.
He says the potholes weren’t visible because of the sun shining through the trees.
As a result of the accident, he was thrown into the path of oncoming traffic, suffering minor injuries.
Damage to his bicycle, glasses and clothing was a total of £600.
Reg says the road he was travelling on had 105 potholes and serious damage to the tarmac.
He says even after informing Shropshire County Council of the incident, his claims were rejected.
Since the accident the potholes have been filled in but Reg is still pursing a compensation claim against the council.
Shropshire County Council say they cannot comment on individual cases.
