British rapper Cadet has died in a crash on his way to a gig in Staffordshire.

The family of the artist, whose real name was Blaine Cameron Johnson, said he died while travelling in a taxi on his way to a performance.

Staffordshire Police say a 28-year-old man died at the scene of a crash involving a silver Toyota Prius and a red Vauxhall Combo van. Emergency services were called at around 1.30am.

Cadet's family released this statement on his official Instagram account.

Cadet's Instagram account has since been made private.

The drivers of both vehicles, a 36-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent and a 22-year-old man from Crewe, were taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital with serious injuries. Cadet was travelling in the Toyota. Three other passengers of the Toyota were treated at Leighton Hospital in Crewe.

Cadet, who was from south London and was tipped for success, toured the UK supporting Krept And Konan on their The Long Way Home Tour.

He accumulated millions of views on YouTube and Spotify and was booked to play at this year's Wireless Festival in July. Event organisers have said they 'will be keeping performance as a time to reflect on the memory of Blaine.'

Fans have taken to social media to pay tribute.

NHS Blood England have also tweeted saying they are extremely saddened by Cadet's death. He had done a promotional video with them.
