Birmingham MP says 4500 job losses at Jaguar Land Rover are a 'huge setback'
Jaguar Land Rover has confirmed it is to cut 4500 jobs.
That is in addition to the 1500 who lost their jobs last year.
The company says the roles affected will include administration, marketing and management.
JLR employs 44,000 workers in the UK at sites in Solihull, Castle Bromwich and Wolverhampton plus Halewood on Merseyside.
In October last year, the car giant unveiled a £2.5 billion turnaround planthat included cost-cutting after Brexit uncertainty and slowing demand in China.
The company have today described the announcement as the next phase of a 'major transformation plan to lay foundations for long-term sustainable profitable growth'.
Along with the job losses the firm also announced further investment into electrification with more electric vehicles to be produced at Wolverhampton Engine Manufacturing Centre and the creation of a new Battery Assembly Centre at Hams Hall.
Liam Byrne, the MP for Hodgehill said today's news was a 'huge setback'.
Jaguar's CEO said today's announcement will safeguard the company's future.
