Birmingham Airport is now 'fully operational' following an earlier shutdown.

All flights were suspended due to an 'air traffic control fault' (December 23).

Passengers were advised to check with their airline regarding flight departures and arrivals.

A Birmingham Airport spokesperson said:

"Following the earlier Air Traffic Control technical fault, Birmingham Airport has now resolved the issue and operations have now resumed.

"We thank passengers for their patience and apologise for any inconvenience this has caused."

Passengers voiced their frustration on twitter.
