Bravery award for hero police dog stabbed on duty
A Derbyshire Police dog who was stabbed three times on duty will be recognised for his outstanding bravery at an awards ceremony tonight.
PD Axle and his handler were called to an incident in Riddings in July, where the dog was stabbed by Matthew Stretch. He also threatened officers and damaging a police vehicle. He pleaded guilty to charges including making threats to kill, assault, threatening with a blade, and two counts of criminal damage – one of which related to stabbing PD Axle. He was jailed for six years and seven months.
PD Axle will be recognised along with other members of Derbyshire Police at a ceremony at Pride Park tonight.
