Cascade of thousands of hand-crafted poppies unveiled as a tribute to the First World War generation

A cascade of thousands of hand-crafted poppies have been unveiled in Leicester to mark the 100th anniversary of the ending of the First World War.

The display outside the Braunstone Civic Centre contains around 14,500m poppies in remembrance of all the men from Leicestershire killed in The Great War.

A special dedication service was held by at centre's war memorial as a tribute to their sacrifice.

Lin Burrows, from Braunstone Community Life, said: The 100th anniversary has really touched a nerve in people. They want to remember it.

"They want it to never happen again because it destroyed a generation. You can't let that be forgotten."

Ozzy O'Shea, chairman of Leicestershire County Council, said: "The work that's gone into the creativity of what they've done for the fallen heroes is absolutely wonderful. I'm so proud of them.
