Pride of Britain: Pride of Britain: The man supporting a new generation of athletes to honour his brother
We have been asking for your nominations for people in our region that go the extra mile to help others and raise money for charity.
Four individuals have been shortlisted for the chance to become the Midlands finalist for the Pride of Britain Regional Fundraiser of the Year.
Davinder Chatha launched the Jet Singh Trust two years ago, following the death of his younger brother Jet.
Davinder wanted to use the trust to celebrate Jet’s his and keep his memory alive.
Jet was Olympic-level wrestler and fitness trainer, so the purpose of the trust became was to promote physical and mental wellbeing.
In keeping with his brother's adventurous nature, every month Davinder organises a different physical challenge to fundraise for the trust.
The challenges have included climbing Mount Snowden, mud runs and sky dives. He has even used his weight to pull a car.
The trust has raised a significant amount of money since its launch.
In October 2017 he opened a not-for-profit mixed martial arts centre, with classes running every day for adults and children.
Davinder is a physiotherapist, and the centre is located in previously-vacant space at the back of his office.
He hopes to encourage a new generation of athletes to develop, and in turn create a lasting legacy for his brother.
Davinder told ITV news Central: ""The main ethos behind the MMA centre is to get the local kids, especially the youngsters, get them into a disciplined sport.
"Back in the day, we used to have youth club and all those have gone now. So local children are lost.
"Hopefully we'll have some international athletes coming from here in the future."
Among the campaigns organised by the Jet Singh Trust is ‘Born to Walk’.
It sponsors children with cerebral palsy to receive specialist hydrotherapy treatment on an underwater treadmill.
The treatment is not currently available on the NHS.
The trust has also helped to build an orphanage in Batala, India, where it now runs an orphanage sponsorship programme.
