Thugs 'tasered' 89-year-old in botched robbery
An elderly man was injured during a robbery in Hazel Grove.
Police were called shortly after midnight on Sunday, to reports of an attempted robbery on Bakewell Road.
The victim, an 89-year-old man, was returning home after having been out for dinner with a friend. He pulled in to his driveway, parked his car and as he got out he was approached by an unknown man from behind.
The man grabbed the victim’s hand, and demanded that he hand over his keys. In the struggle, it is believed that the elderly man was tasered, causing him to fall to the ground.
At this point the offender rummaged through the victim’s pockets, took his keys and tried to steal his car but was unable to start it. He then ran off in the direction of Cavendish Road.
As he lay injured on the ground following the attack, neighbours of the elderly man heard his cries for help and rushed to assist.
An ambulance was called and paramedics treated the man for minor injuries.
