Wolves goalkeeper Carl Ikeme announces retirement

Wolves goalkeeper Carl Ikeme, who is remission from acute leukaemia, has announced his retirement from professional football.

The 32-year-old announced the news to his teammates before a training session.

The club said he made the decision consultation with medical experts, following his 12-month battle with the disease.

Last month, Ikeme revealed on Twitter that he was in complete remission after "a tough year and intense chemotherapy".

The club said he now plans to take some time off with his young family, before considering the stage in his career.

Ikeme joined in Wolves in 2000 when he was 14 years old.

The club's executive chairman, Jeff Shi, said he would "always remain a part of the Wolves family".
