Police dog stabbed in the line of duty reunited with handler
A police dog who was stabbed three times in the line of duty is now back on his paws.
Seven-year-old Axle was attacked while officers from Derbyshire Police attended a domestic incident on High Street, Riddings, on Wednesday July 4.
He has since been discharged from the veterinary centre where he was recovering and is back with his handler, PC Dean Allen.
Axle will have a period of rest and recuperation before he returns to work.
Derbyshire Police says Axle has received hundreds of messages of support from the public since the attack.
A 27-year-old man has been charged in connection with Axle's injuries.
Matthew Stretch, of Plantation Road, Keyworth, Nottinghamshire has been faces charges of threatening with a blade, two counts of threats to kill against two police officers, and two counts of criminal damage - one pertaining to a police dog and one to a police vehicle.
He has also been charged with assault and breach of a restraining order.
