Parents of Owen Jenkins thank the community for their support on the first anniversary of his death

A year ago today, a schoolboy from Nottinghamshire died a hero rescuing two girls who got into difficulty in the River Trent at Beeston Weir.

The family of 12-year-old Owen Jenkins have since set up a trust in his memory to teach children about the dangers of open water and drowning.

The spot where he died has been named "Owen's Place" and there's now a memorial bench there, painted in his favourite colour - purple.

On the first anniversary of his death his parents have been speaking exclusively to our correspondent Peter Bearne.
