Appeal after pensioner's pets killed in 'senseless attack'

There's an appeal for information after ten hens, six ducks and a cockerel were killed in a ‘senseless attack’ carried out on a pensioner’s allotment in Leicestershire.

The RSPCA and police were called to Earl Shilton after a man, who kept the birds as pets near his home, came across the scene when he went to feed them on the 25th of June

The retired 72 year-old said he was devastated when he saw that his beloved birds had been killed and their bodies had been strewn around the ground at the allotment off Green Lane.

He fears someone may have taken a cockerel to fight with the birds while others were stamped on.

The man, who does not want to be named, said:

The man said a few of his pets survived by hiding in nearby bushes - including a duck sitting on four eggs which have since successfully hatched. He said he will now be keeping them all at a different location.
